AMA IOSUG Hosts Aspirant for Welfare Director Amid Fundamental Observations

The AMA IOSUG platform was abuzz today 15th December, 2024 as it hosted an interactive interview session with Ms. Bakare Oluwakemi Mutiat, an aspirant for the Welfare Director position. Ms. Bakare, a National Diploma holder in Hospitality Management and Technology from the Federal Polytechnic Idah, shared her vision for enhancing student welfare through innovative and community-driven initiatives.

During the session, she articulated her understanding of key student welfare issues, emphasizing the importance of planning, efficient resource use, and community engagement. When asked about her strategies to advocate for improved welfare services, she proposed initiatives such as mental health first aid training, counseling services, mindfulness programs, and work-life balance measures, including flexible hours and paid mental health days.

Ms. Bakare also demonstrated a keen understanding of balancing individual complaints with broader welfare goals, highlighting her commitment to empathy, confidentiality, and systemic solutions. Her plans to ensure continuous improvement in student welfare include regular feedback collection, staying updated on best practices, and data-driven decision-making.

However, the session was met with a significant observation from Dr. Cool, who raised concerns about the role of Welfare Director not being recognized within the amended constitution of the union. Dr. Cool suggested that Ms. Bakare consider vying for another position, aligning with the union's framework of 11 national executive roles.

Comrade Ahmed Murtala Olaiya also commended the AMA handlers for their excellent work while urging adherence to the union's constitution. His remarks underscored the need for aspirants to be guided by the constitutional provisions in their ambitions.

The AMA IOSUG interview provided an insightful platform for Ms. Bakare to present her ideas while sparking essential discussions about constitutional alignment and the scope of leadership roles within the union.
