Step 1: Download OBS Studio
- Go to the official OBS website: https://obsproject.com
- Click on Download OBS Studio for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
- Install OBS by running the downloaded file and following the installation instructions.
Step 2: Launch OBS Studio
- Open OBS Studio after installation.
- If prompted, allow OBS to make changes to your device.
- The Auto-Configuration Wizard will appear—choose Optimize for streaming or Optimize for recording, depending on your purpose.
Step 3: Set Up Your Scene and Sources
- Create a New Scene: Click the "+" under the "Scenes" box and name your scene.
- Add a Source: Click the "+" under "Sources" and select what you want to capture:
- Display Capture – To record your entire screen.
- Window Capture – To record a specific application window.
- Video Capture Device – To add a webcam.
- Audio Input Capture – To add an external microphone.
Step 4: Configure Audio Settings
- Go to Settings > Audio.
- Under "Global Audio Devices," set your Microphone and Desktop Audio.
- Adjust volume levels in the Audio Mixer section of the main OBS window.
Step 5: Configure Video Settings
- Go to Settings > Video.
- Set the Base (Canvas) Resolution to your screen resolution.
- Set the Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280x720 or 1920x1080 for best quality.
- Choose Common FPS Values (30 FPS for normal use, 60 FPS for smooth motion).
Step 6: Set Up Output Settings
- Go to Settings > Output.
- For Streaming:
- Set Video Bitrate (2500-6000 Kbps for 1080p).
- Choose Encoder (x264 or hardware encoder).
- For Recording:
- Choose recording format (MP4, MKV, or FLV).
- Select recording path where your videos will be saved.
Step 7: Start Streaming or Recording
- For Streaming:
- Go to Settings > Stream and select your streaming service (YouTube, Twitch, Facebook).
- Enter your Stream Key (found in your streaming platform account).
- Click Start Streaming.
- For Recording:
- Click Start Recording to capture your video.
- Click Stop Recording to save your file.
