In a detailed session addressing his plans for IOSUG's financial future, Omojola Shola Opeyemi, a native of Ife Olukotun and student of Mass Communication at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, outlined a comprehensive strategy for financial management, transparency, and revenue generation.
As a candidate for the position of Treasurer, Opeyemi emphasized his commitment to ensuring the financial integrity of the Students' Union through regular communication and collaboration. He stated:
"As the Treasurer of the Students' Union, my plan for managing financial risks and uncertainties will be to communicate regularly with stakeholders and students. This will provide transparency and assurance that the Students' Union's financial risks and uncertainties are being properly managed."
Opeyemi also discussed his practical experience in budgeting and financial management. While acknowledging that IOSUG has an accountant, he highlighted his leadership experience in managing budgets, tracking expenses, and collaborating with financial teams to align spending with organizational goals.
To address financial mismanagement, he proposed the creation of a review committee comprising students, stakeholders, and executive members to identify and rectify discrepancies. "Accountability and transparency are non-negotiable," he added.
In terms of revenue generation, Opeyemi presented innovative strategies, including:
- Partnering with local businesses and alumni for sponsorships.
- Applying for grants from external organizations.
- Designing and selling IOSUG-branded merchandise like t-shirts and hoodies.
Finally, he pledged to prioritize funding for student needs by conducting thorough needs assessments and allocating resources to strategic initiatives that foster engagement, leadership, and community service.
With these plans, Opeyemi is positioning himself as a forward-thinking and proactive candidate, dedicated to financial transparency and ensuring that IOSUG remains a model of accountability.
